Signs That Your Website Is Outdated

Having an outdated website can fail to bring you traffic and will hurt your search engine rankings. If you are unsure about whether or not your website is outdated then there are a few signs to look for. Not all older sites will need to be redesigned, but these signs will help you determine if yours is one of them.

Is Your Website Responsive?

If you do not know what a responsive website is then your site is probably outdated. Responsive websites are ones with a design which is mobile friendly and that will shift to fit onto the screen that is being used. Having a responsive website is essential to be competitive in today’s online market.

It is easy to determine if your website is responsive as Google has a tool for this. If your website does not change to fit the smaller screen of a mobile device then you need to have it redesigned. Mobile traffic is increasing and search engines like to promote websites that are responsive.

Do You Have Social Media Icons?

If you go to any modern website you will see a range of social media icons at the top of the page and on each post. If your website does not have any social media icons then it is outdated. Social icons are a great way to increase the sharing of your website content and to link your visitors to your business on social media platforms.

When you redesign the website you need to place the social media icons as close to the top of the page as possible. This will ensure that they are seen and that your visitors will have easy access to them.

Do You Have A Blog?

In the past, it was possible to have a static website that would rank well as long as you had good content and looked at the keywords you want to rank for. This is not longer the case and if your website does not have a blog attached to it then it is outdated. Part of ranking on the search engines is putting new information onto your website and a blog can do this for you if you need to have a static webpage.

Blogs are easy to add to your website and will drive more traffic to your website. You can also connect your blog to social media which further increases your reach. Hubspot research has shown that websites with blogs that post 16 times a month will have 3.5 times more traffic than websites without.

Do You Have A Hit Counter?

In the 90’s a hit counter was a must on any website because it told visitors that you had a popular website. However, you no longer need to have a hit counter and if you do then your website is outdated. There are many websites that still have this relic of the past, but if you do then you need to move to the modern times. Tools like Google Analytics are better at counting the number of visitors you have and will offer you additional information that you need.
